Good Eats: Village Yokocho

This little gem of a place will fufill your craving for Japanese food. Village Yokocho is near St. Marks Place on Stuyvesant St. on the second floor. It doesn't get as much attention as it deserves, but that's kind of a good thing.  It's not overly crowded like most of the restaurants on St. Marks and is very low key, and a spot that isn't swarming with the normal east village junkies is not easy to find. They have an amazing selection of traditional Japanese basics that includes yakitori, okonomiyaki, sashimi and Japanese curry. For good measure, they even have Korean selections on their menu.

Their drink selection is to die for. No sake bombing, but they do make great combinations of Japanese beverages and also have a good variety of rice wine. The place is decorated with paper lanterns and traditional Japanese aesthetics. It's a great, seemingly unknown spot, to take a couple of friends or a date to. Be sure to check this place out!
