Happy That H&M x Givenchy Will Not Happen

I saw this H&M x Givenchy image floating around the web monday morning and I couldn't resist a comment.  I've been consistently disappointed with H&M's attempts to bring high fashion to a mass market.  It's just not possible.  The result is over priced H&M or badly constructed luxury goods- pick your poison.  But I'm even more disappointed with the designers that team up with H&M than I am with the mass market retailer.

Why dilute your respected brands by doing this?  Sure, a mass market version of Versace or Maison Martin Margiela brings in a huge cash flow and hype in the same way that Louis Vuitton collaborating with Kanye West did- it brings in an audience that wouldn't previously have access to or consider purchasing the brand. But it is it worth it?  Though after a few seasons the cheap H&M goods fade into obscurity (most people probably don't remember the Comme des Garcons collection and that was just a few years ago), this kind of attention is a real turn off for a luxury brand's true fan base who buys based on quality, construction and exclusivity.   Please think before you downgrade yourselves.

I'm thankful that Givenchy has denied the possibility of this collaboration, we don't need that in our lives.  Let us know what you think in the comments below.
